Star Trek: Uyo defies the rain
June 10, 2008 It was an A-list performance and the turn out of the crowd proved that the choice of artists that the Nigerian Breweries made for this year’s edition of Star Trek concerts which commenced in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital was indeed brilliant.
From African China, through KC Presh, Faze, Tony One Week and debutantes and winners of the 2008 edition of the Star Quest musical Talent Hunt, The Diamonds, Uyo people couldn’t have asked for a better deal.
But that brilliant selection was almost dampened, when the heavens opened up and the rains came tumbling down. Trust the show starved Uyo people, the rain soon became part of the fun as they stomped, danced and waltz through the poodle as the musicians delivered.
Soon after MC Basket Mouth rounded up with the local acts, the Diamonds who were dying to show that their winning the Star Quest crown was no fluke took the centre stage to prove their mettle.
Delivery and timing were perfect as the group showed they could hold their own even in the face of threats by the older and more established groups.
Their performance soon gave way to their older stable mates KC Presh who came on stage with a bang. With stage costumes that the breath out of many, the boys made good their early promise to these pages to rock Uyo. And rock they did as the crowd went into a frenzy when they rendered the number Siokpo.
And if the performance of KC Presh was wonderful, the noises that welcomed Faze on stage quickly swallowed the heavy metal noise that boomed from the speakers.
The wet night rolled on as Faze delved into his arsenal to uproot several of the hit songs that’s made him the darling of many Nigerians especially his female fans. And when it was time to go, the crowd couldn’t but ask for me.
And more they got, when MC Basket Mouth brought on stage the closing act and veteran of the trek Tony One Week.
In his usual style the Anambra state born musician flowed with the crowd as he delivered his famed Palm Drinkards Club lyrics. The music seemed to be the exact tonic the crowd needed to keep away the rains, as they gyrated to heavy rhythm of the music.
When the curtain fell on the show, it was a thoroughly satisfied crowd that left the Ibom Park as the train moved on to Umuahia, the Abia State capital for another brilliant show that featured P-Square, KC Presh, and Tony One Week.
