Sischy & Brant join Vanity Fair
March 17, 2008 “Ingrid and Sandy are deeply connected to the worlds of fashion, Hollywood, and art, and bring enormous journalistic experience and know-how to this new position, which has been created especially for them,” Newhouse said in a statement. “They command an extraordinary level of respect in the industry.” In addition to their immediate duties, Newhouse added that Sischy and Brant would extend their responsibilities to future editions of Vanity Fair when they are launched.
The pair will officially join Vanity Fair on May 2.
Sischy, who was not available for immediate comment, said in a statement, “This is a most exciting opportunity for Sandra and me to continue our engagement in worlds we so love, with the premiere company in publishing. The international aspect of this role is especially thrilling in the context of this moment in the 21st century, when fashion, art, film, and pop culture itself has become so global.”
Over the past 23 years Brant served as chief executive officer, president, and publisher of Brant Publications which publishes Interview, Art in America, and The Magazine Antiques. She completes her tenure this week. Sischy had been editor of Interview since 1990 and previously wrote for The New Yorker. In her new position, Sischy, who most recently profiled Calvin Klein for the April issue of Vanity Fair, will remain a contributing editor for the U.S. edition, a position she has held since January 1997. Her first piece for U.S. Vanity Fair was on Keith Haring.
Brant and Sischy are credited with successfully publishing Interview and maintaining it as an important, influential title devoted to celebrity, fashion and culture following the death of its founder, Andy Warhol, in 1987. Brant was the co-owner and earlier this year, sold her half of the enterprise to her former husband Peter Brant.
The European editions of Vanity Fair are editorially independent of the American magazine. Italian Vanity Fair, edited by Luca Dini, launched in 2003, and has since grown to enjoy a circulation of more than 250,000 with more than 6,300 advertising pages, the highest volume of any consumer magazine in Europe or the United States. German Vanity Fair, edited by Nikolaus Albrecht, launched a year ago and sells close to 200,000 copies. The editor of Spanish Vanity Fair is Lourdes Garzon. Sischy and
Brant will work closely with these editors.
