Charice meets with rap star Sean "Diddy" Combs
May 31, 2008 Young singer Charice revealed that she had a meeting with popular US rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs formerly known as “Puff Daddy” in New York. Initially, their meeting was set for April 24th, but it was cancelled.
In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Charice shared that she was so thrilled and happy to meet the rap star. She met Combs on May 12th, days after she performed in Hawaii for ABS-CBN’s noontime show “Wowowee.”
“Nag-meeting lang po kami. ‘Yun po ‘yung pagkatapos ng Hawaii namin nagkita kami ni Puff Daddy. Sabi niya napanood niya daw po ako sa Youtube at sa Oprah at humanga po siya sa akin,” Charice said.
“Hindi ako makapaniwala kasi doon tinitingnan ko lang iyong billboard niya. Tapos nakita ko siya ng personal at nakausap ko pa,” Charice added.
She said Combs treated her to a snack. Charice was accompanied by lawyer Ed Shapiro.
Charice said she sang one of her favorite songs, Whitney Houston’s hit “I Have Nothing” for Puff Daddy.
“Natuwa talaga siya sa akin ng kinantahan ko siya ng ‘I Have Nothing’.”
When asked what the purpose of her meeting with Combs was, Charice politely replied, “Basta po nag-meeting lang po kami, nag-usap ‘yun na lang po muna.”
Sean John Combs in real life is also known by his stage names Diddy, P. Diddy, and Puff Daddy. He is an American rapper, record producer, actor, clothing designer, and a businessman.
Reports say Combs is the third-richest hip-hop mogul, having a net worth estimated at US $680 million.
Charice in Manila
After almost one month of staying abroad, Charice arrived in Manila Wednesday morning. She just came from a successful performance at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas last Friday, May 23rd for musician-record producer David Foster’s benefit show entitled “David Foster & Friends”.
Once again, Charice proved her singing prowess as she got two standing ovations for her performance at the benefit concert.
In front of an audience of almost 10,000, Charice sang a medley of Whitney Houston’s hits- “I Will Always Love You” and “I Have Nothing”.
These songs are from the original sound track of “The Bodyguard” which was produced by Foster. “And I Am Telling You” is from the original soundtrack of “Dreamgirls”, also produced by Foster.
Charice and her mother Raquel will stay in the country for only two days. Tomorrow, May 30th, they are flying to New York for the Philippines Independence Day Parade that will be held at Madison Avenue on Monday June 1st.
But before they leave town, Charice is set to meet members of the entertainment media inside the ABS-CBN compound, Thursday afternoon, May 29 to promote her self-titled album.
Charice will be back in the country on the second week of June as she is set to guest in the concert of Air Supply at Araneta Coliseum on June 14th.
