Polow Da Don Named Songwriter of the Year

BMI held its 56th annual Pop Awards Tuesday night, and the top honor went to Polow Da Don. The former Jim Crow member, who has reinvented himself an A-list pop producer, was named Songwriter of the Year. Polow saw at least four songs which he either shared writing and or production credits on spend over 10 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Fergie’s singles “London Bridge” and “Glamorous” spent 12 weeks and 17 weeks on the charts respectively, pushing her album, The Dutchess, past double-platinum sales. The Pussycat Dolls “Buttons” peaked at number three and also spent 39 weeks on the Hot 100. Meanwhile, Rich Boy’s platinum-selling single “Throw Some D’s” peaked at number one while spending 22 weeks on the Hot 100. Polow also crafted hits for Young Buck, Ludacris, Jamie Foxx, Ciara and R. Kelly. Previous winners of the award include Sean “The Pen” Garrett (2007), Lil John (2006), Irv Gotti (2003).
