Ethnic Koreans Abroad Back Candlelight Vigils
June 8, 2008
Ethnic Korean communities in Britain and Germany have joined those in the U.S. in supporting candlelight vigils in Korea protesting U.S. beef imports.
A group of Korean Americans in New York and New Jersey, including university students, held their own candlelight vigil Saturday at the entrance of Koreatown in Manhattan.
Some 200 ethnic Koreans in Britain held a similar gathering, opposing Korea’s resumption of U.S. beef imports.
About 100 ethnic Koreans in Germany convened at St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt and urged the Lee Myung-bak government to renegotiate beef imports with the U.S. Another 40 people gathered in Berlin to express support for candlelight vigils in Korea.
