Gov’t Steps Up Clearance Efforts for US Beef Safety
June 26, 2008
The government will accelerate clearance procedures for imported beef products following its decision to resume U.S. beef imports.
The Korea Customs Service said it’ll build a system to track the origin of imported beef even after it enters the local market.
The customs authority will require importers to clearly label shipments with details on the age and origin of cattle parts they bring in.
In addition, all participants in the supply chain, from overseas processing facilities to retailers, will be required to provide their name, registration number, trade volume and other information on the service’s Web site.
