Korea Conducts Dokdo Defense Drill
July 31, 2008
Korea conducted a joint military drill off the
coasts of Uleung Island and Dokdo Wednesday aimed at assessing
preparedness to protect the Dokdo islets from foreign aggression.
For the exercise, the Navy’s First Fleet employed eight war vessels,
two fighter jets, one anti-submarine helicopter and one offshore patrol
helicopter.
In the drill, the Coast Guard, Navy and the Air Force jointly repelled
the simulated infiltration of a ship in waters around the islets.
This is the first time the military revealed the schedule of the drill in advance.
The Navy conducts two Dokdo defense drills a year.
