Korea Fifth-Largest Buyer of U.S. Military Hardware
June 18, 2008
South Korea was reportedly the fifth-largest buyer of U.S. military equipment and supplies in the past year, in the same league as Britain and Japan.
According to a U.S. State Department report on authorized commercial sales for fiscal year 2007, Korea purchased one-and-a-half billion dollars worth of equipment from the U.S. defense industry.
The nation paid 347-thousand dollars for two devices used to analyze nuclear tests and explosions.
Unlike the government-to-government Foreign Military Sales program, in direct commercial sales, the Korean government directly negotiated purchases with U.S. defense firms.
