Korea Partially Suspends US Pork Imports
July 21, 2008
Authorities have suspended quarantine inspections on U.S. pork intestines.
The move is based on information that some U.S. pork farmers have
exported to Korea intestines that were processed in China. Korea
imports pork intestines for use as the outer covering for sausages.
The Agriculture Ministry asked the U.S. to identify the truth of the information.
The ministry suspects some U.S. pork farmers of processing intestines in China to save costs.
It is a breach of import hygienic rules if a country processes meat products in a third country before shipping them to Korea.
