July 31, 2008
he 15th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) will issue a joint statement that calls for the
implementation of all inter-Korean agreements and declarations.
South Korea’s Ambassador to Iran Kim Young-mok said the joint
statement, issued Wednesday at Tehran, reflects the positions of both
Koreas.
North Korea wanted the statement to include the importance of
implementing the South-North June 15 joint declaration and the October
4th Summit Declaration. The South, on its part, stressed the need for
the two Koreas to fully implement all inter-Korean accords and
declarations.
Kim added that the Non-Aligned Movement’s joint statement also calls
for a swift resolution to the North’s nuclear standoff based on the
full implementation of the September 19th joint declaration.
Founded in April 1955, the Non-Aligned Movement is an international
organization of countries that consider themselves not formally aligned
with or against any major power bloc. It has 118 members
