The number of South Koreans that visited North
Korea last month decreased by more than 62 percent following the
tourist shooting at the North’s Mount Geumgang resort.
The Unification Ministry said Monday that some 21-thousand South
Koreans traveled to the communist state in July, down 62-point-two
percent from June and down about 19 percent from the same period last
year.
The total number of tourists to Mount Geumgang slipped nearly 78
percent from June while tourists to the border city of Gaeseong fell
four-and-a-half percent to some 11-thousand last month.
Meanwhile, inter-Korean trade for July stood at some 181-million
dollars. That’s down one-and-a-half percent from the same period last
year and up more than 23 percent from June.
