Record Num. of Kids Traveling Overseas Alone
July 31, 2008
The number of grade-school children traveling overseas alone to study has recorded its highest figure ever.
Korean Air said in the first half of the year, almost 29-hundred
children used its Unaccompanied Minors (UM) service, which is where an
airline staff member assists the child passenger. The number of
children using the service has increased by five-point-five percent
from the same period last year.
Korean Air said most of the minors were leaving to attend schools or
language programs overseas. It added that, on average, 60 children per
day used the assistance service in July.
The airline industry projected that the number of children traveling to study abroad will only continue to increase.
