The mixed badminton doubles team of Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung won Korea’s eighth gold medal of the Beijing Olympics Sunday.

The duo beat out world champions Natsir Liliyana and Nova Widianto of Indonesia in straight sets 21-11 and 21-17, earning Korea’s only gold medal in badminton.

The last Korean mixed doubles badminton team to win gold was Kim Dong-moon and Kil Young-ah in 1996.

Also on Sunday, the women’s table tennis doubles team salvaged a bronze medal, beating Japan 3 to 0.

Boxer Kim Jung-joo defeated Demetrius Andrade of the U.S. 11 to 9 in the men’s welter 69-kilogram quarterfinal, securing at least a bronze medal for Korea.

In men’s table tennis, Oh Sang-eun, Ryu Seung-min and Yoon Jae-young defeated Hong Kong in a group match 3 to 1. They will play Austria for the bronze medal Monday.

In baseball, Lee Seung-yeop drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh inning as Korea edged China 1 to 0 to stay unbeaten in Olympic play. Korea secured a semifinals berth with the win.

In women’s basketball, Korea advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Latvia 72-68. The team will seek to earn a berth in the semifinals in a game against the U.S. on Monday.

In men’s field hockey, Korea beat Belgium 3-1. With two victories, one tie and one defeat, Korea can make the semifinals if it beats Spain Tuesday.

As of Sunday night, Korea had 8 gold medals, 9 silver and 5 bronze, ranking sixth in the gold medal count. China holds the most gold medals with 35, followed by the United States with 19.
