S. Korean pitcher may be released from Major League: team
May 23, 2008 SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) — South Korean Baek Cha Seung, pitching in the U.S. Major League Baseball, faces release from the Seattle Mariners, the team said on its official Web site monitored here on Friday.
혻 혻 “The Mariners have designated right-handed pitcher Baek for assignment,” the site said, adding the team had eight days left as of Friday until it decides to trade, release or send Baek to the minors.
혻 혻 The 27-year-old joined the team in 1998 as a non-drafted free agent right out of high school in the South Korean port city of Busan. The team said he will be replaced by another right-hander, R.A. Dickey on the roster.
혻혻 Baek appeared in 10 games, making one start this season, according the Mariners. Throwing from the bullpen, he pitched 30 innings, with an earned average of 5.40.
