UDP Opposes Unilateral Opening of Assembly
July 2, 2008
The main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has criticized the ruling Grand National Party (GNP) for seeking to unilaterally open the 18th National Assembly.
UDP lawmaker Cho Jeong-sik called the ruling party’s decision “a declaration of war.” He said a single party pushing for an opening of the Assembly is unheard of even during the past military dictatorship.
Cho went on to say that GNP floor leader Hong Joon-pyo was very rude to disclose an unofficial meeting with UDP floor leader Won Hye-young without permission.
The lawmaker criticized the GNP for trying to justify its move to open the Assembly alone. He said the planned floor leaders’ meeting will not take place on Wednesday.
