US Beef Exporter Issues 3rd Recall
August 10, 2008
A leading U.S. beef exporter to Korea is recalling its products for the third time due to possible E. coli contamination.
Nebraska Beef instituted the recall Sunday after having taking back
more than 240 tons in June and around 240 tons of beef last month in
the wake of the discovery of the O157 strain in U.S. ground beef
products.
The products recalled over the weekend were made June 17th and 24th and July 8th.
The U.S. Agriculture Department cited 31 possible cases of E. coli contamination in 12 U.S. states and in Canada.
The recall comes as Seoul waits for Washington’s response to a request
for information on the discovery of the virus strain in beef products.
E. coli O157 is a potentially deadly form of bacteria that can cause kidney failure in severe cases.
