November 16, 2008 (Computerworld) A Hewlett-Packard Co. executive was furious at Microsoft Corp. over the company’s decision to loosen the requirements for its “Vista Capable” marketing campaign, internal e-mails unsealed by a federal judge on Friday show.

Intel cuts forecast amid broad spending slowdown

November 12, 2008 (IDG News Service) Intel Corp. on Wednesday cut its revenue forecast for the fourth quarter, the latest sign that the global financial crisis is leading to a sharp slowdown in IT spending.

Intel cited “significantly” weaker-than-expected demand for its products worldwide and said companies involved in manufacturing PCs are aggressively reducing their component inventories.

Google adds video and audio chat to gmail

Google announced Tuesday it is adding video and audio chat to its free e-mail service, joining Microsoft and Yahoo in a race to make communication on the Web a more social experience.

Both Microsoft and Yahoo offer video with their instant messaging services, but have not integrated it into e-mail.

Microsoft Vows Windows 7 Will Fix Vista Mistakes

Microsoft on Tuesday for the first time publicly demonstrated Windows 7, the next major release of its OS for PCs that Microsoft insists will reflect lessons learned from the widely panned Windows Vista.

Microsoft also laid out a road map for the release of Windows 7 and handed out a pre-beta version to developers at the Professional Developers Conference (PDC), where it also demonstrated new features in a keynote address Tuesday.
