Countries targeted by new WFP assistance program
August 13, 2008 Some of the countries that will receive aid under a $214 million campaign by the World Food Program to ease the effects of high food and oil prices in 16 trouble spots:
_ ETHIOPIA: Increased feeding programs for malnourished children and other assistance for nation where more than 10 million people affected by severe drought and tripled crop prices.
_ GUINEA: Bolstered school feeding programs and health centers for 585,000 needy people.
Tropical depressions could threaten Caribbean

couple of low-pressure systems in the Atlantic Ocean that could develop
into tropical depressions over the next couple of days.
A
broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave over the
central Atlantic about 825 miles east of the Windward Islands could
develop into a tropical depression during the next couple of days as it
moves west-northwest at 15 to 20 miles per hour, the US National
Hurricane Center said in its 2 p.m. EDT report.

August 6, 2008 CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Wed. Aug. 6, 2008: Immigration and law enforcement agents in Florida have scooped up 60 immigration fugitives and violators over five days, including several from Caribbean nations.
Among those apprehended were immigrants from Haiti, Jamaica and the Bahamas, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Those apprehended had criminal histories, having been charged with crimes including aggravated assault, DUI hit and run, burglary, cocaine possession and larceny.
